Chitkara University, Himachal Pradesh was bestowed with the responsibility of hosting North Zone All India Inter-University Volley Ball Tournament (Women) 2018 by Association of Indian Universities (AIU) and was organized from October 26-30, 2018 under the mentorship of Lt. Anil Rana, Assistant Director, Physical Education and Sports Department, had some amazing moments of Glory.

The championship was inaugurated by Pro-Chancellor, Chitkara University, Dr. Madhu Chitkara on 26 October 2018 witnessing a participation of 39 teams.

The tournament was the qualifying stage for teams from North India to represent them at the All-India level. The four-day fiesta saw nail-biting matches and some thrilling performances where participants left no stone unturned to win the championship. As a part of the elaborate preparations for the qualifying tournament, three volleyball courts were designed in the campus to conduct the matches.

Thrilling North zone battle saw four teams qualifying for the League Stage and the All India Level, namely, Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra; Punjab University, Chandigarh; Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla; and Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar.

It was an honor for the qualifying teams to be honored by Dr. Bir Singh Yadav, International Coach Volley Ball and Mr. Vijay Pal Singh, Vice President, Volleyball Federation of India, who were the Guest of Honor for the North Zone Volley Ball Tournament (Women) 2018.

All the teams on the campus enjoyed the unbeatable hospitality of Chitkara University. The ample number of activities and events were organized by the university in the evening, where participants made memories they would cherish lifelong. The event concluded with everyone grooving to peppy beats of DJ Jass on popular chartbusters.

As the curtains come down on the tournament, Dr. Varinder Kanwar, Vice Chancellor said that,” One formidable outcome that resonates with all has been the need for more of such platforms and Chitkara University is delighted and honored to host an event of such grandeur and is grateful to AIU for trusting and giving us the National level opportunity”.
