Chitkara University to organize 21 days Summer School on Geospatial Technology

The Department of Civil Engineering, Chitkara University, Himachal Pradesh will be organizing a 21 days Summer School on Geospatial Technology – Level 2 (Mountain Disaster Management—Landslide) from June 2nd, 2022 to June 22nd, 2022. The program will be sponsored by NGP – DST, New Delhi. A total of 26 participants including academicians, professors, and scientists across the country have been selected for this school.

The first week of the training will include the basis of surveying, levelling, geospatial technology, and its application using different surveying instruments and open-source geospatial software (QGIS, SAGA GIS, etc). Hands-on training will be provided in the aforementioned research areas. The second and third weeks of Summer School will cover geological and geotechnical investigations for landslide areas, and field data collection from different landslide sites around Shimla areas. It will also include simulation and discussion on landslide’s early warning system. Participants will be trained in geological and geotechnical data analysis using SPATIAL R, Innstreo, Slope 64, and SPECFEM3D software.

The last part of the summer school will include a mini-research project. Experts and Resource Persons include faculty from institutions like IITs, Survey of India, GSI, and other central and state Universities. The program will be coordinated by Dr. C Prakasam, Associate Professor, School of Earth Sciences, Assam University and Dr. Varinder Singh Kanwar, Vice-Chancellor and Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, Chitkara University, Himachal Pradesh.
